Meet The Founder: Angelina Ly

Hi there! My name is Angelina Ly, I'm a first generation Vietnamese American and the proud founder of Fireflyslime, a passion project that has grown into a thriving community of slime lovers. I am a recent college graduate and earned my bachelor's degree in business administration. My journey with slime began when I was just 14 years old! What started as a fun way to explore creativity, soon turned into something much bigger—a chance to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. 

All slime products are made here in Seattle, WA by me using large industrials mixers (the ones common in bakeries used for making dough)! I package every order, answer every email, and make every slime myself!

Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to creating high-quality, sensory-rich slime products that delight kids, parents, and collectors alike. I’ve always believed that slime is more than just a toy—it’s a tool for relaxation, creativity, and even therapy. Hearing stories from customers about how Fireflyslime has helped with anxiety, dexterity, and bonding time with loved ones has been the most rewarding part of this journey. 

Beyond crafting slime, I’ve had the honor of collaborating with retail stores, hosting slime-making workshops, and being featured on platforms like Studio 13 on FOX and Scholastic Magazine sharing my story as a young entrepreneur. I’m passionate about fostering creativity, connecting with our amazing community, and spreading joy—one slime creation at a time.

• I've been a guest speaker on 5+ E-commerce podcasts including Winfluence, Winning with Shopify, and Shopify Masters.
• When I turned 18, I was featured as a contestant on the first slime competition show, Slime Wars now streaming on Tubi.
• We've raised $1,500+ to donate towards epilepsy awareness, dog shelters, elderly care homes, and local schools.

How I Started Fireflyslime

I started Fireflyslime in 2017... on accident. You heard that right! At the time, I was into all things crafty—crocheting, painting, building, and, of course, making slime. Slime was the perfect outlet for my creativity, blending art with fun and relaxation.

Like many hobbies, I wanted to share my creations with the internet, so I started posting slime videos on Instagram. To set up my page, I needed a username, and here’s where the story gets fun. I wish I could say the name "fireflyslime" had some profound meaning behind it, but the truth is much simpler. At the time, I had dragonfly lights hanging in my room. I thought, Why not “dragonfly slime”? Unfortunately, that username was already taken. On a whim, I tried “fireflyslime.” It was available, and just like that, Fireflyslime was created!

What I didn’t expect was how quickly people would fall in love with my creations. A few weeks later, after receiving countless requests from my Instagram followers to buy my slimes, I decided to open a "temporary" online store to sell my creations.

Little did I know, that small decision would change the course of my life. What began as a fun side project turned into my full-time job, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thanks to my amazing supporters, I’ve achieved things I never thought possible:

• Attending 20+ slime conventions and markets as a VIP guest in California, Illinois, Florida, and Washington state
• Selling tens of thousands of slimes to people all over the world
• Returning to schools as a guest speaker and mentoring young aspiring entrepreneurs
• Hosting slime workshops locally in Seattle, WA in universities, birthday parties, and events
• Discovering my passion for entrepreneurship and creating joy
